Before we learned the names of these mountains, you were already moving — slowly, patiently — carving valleys, feeding rivers, holding the memory of winters far older than us. For centuries you have carried water for worlds you would never see. Cities, forests, oceans. You gave without asking to be noticed. We took you for granted as we got to know each other. And only now, as you retreat, we begin to understand what you have held. This is a memory, written while you are still here.
